I forgot to mention the theme attribute in the list of short tag attributes. You have the "theme" attribute which you can use. Is this what you had in mind or are you thinking of something different?

in fact, it was not the thing on my mind. I thought admins could arrange the colours whatever they want

OK, I think I understand.
You want to be able to build your own theme? i.e. decide which colors/background image to use on white squares, black squares etc?
It's absolutely a good idea, since that's how most of the other chess program works. I will put it on my todo list
